Hit the RogueTech discord, people are fairly helpful over there. It's one of my absolute favorite games now, but early on it seemed unplayable :D A lot of tweaking (and a few patches) later, it takes about five to ten minutes to start the game and get into a fight, it's much smoother and I can run five or six missions before a restart becomes advisable.īut it did take me some work to get that far. When I started out playing Roguetech, it took me about 40 minutes just to start the game and get into a mission, I had about 5 frames per second when it didn't freeze for a minute, and I had to restart the game after each mission. Those help immensely with starting more quickly and with not needing to restart as often, respectivelyäĪnother important point is having the game AND the mod's cache on the same drive AND having a big pagefile on that drive, and ideally making that drive an SSD or similar device.Īnd lastly, be honest - did you implement everything the wiki mentioned? Gun's dont feel as satisfying as lets just say a 2x RAC10 punching through a heavy, but they're close enough. However, I felt the first 4-5 missions the timeline stuff was sort of wonky, however once you get the hand of it, it feels really punchy at times. I would say the only positive to Roguetech is that you can smash out a few minutes without lengthy wait times. ![]() Regarding pilot progression: In BattleTech it was very basic and I never felt that it was fun or interesting so losing that isn't the worst. Maybe I'd learn to appreciate it if I stuck to it for long enough, but I can also just play more RogueTech. It's somewhat novel, even if it's not the very first game that does this system, but ultimately remains mostly just a gimmick. IMO it compares poorly because the added complexity of managing the timeline doesn't really add so much tactical depth as it adds frustrating UX. In PB I pull at sliders and arrows to try and get units to do what I want. I tried Phantom Brigade and dropped it after 20 minutes of trying to wrangle those damn timelines.
